# The Buffalo Soccer Scene

Buffalo is one of Western New York's greatest soccer stories — a blue-collar lake city with deep Eastern European, Italian, and growing Latino immigrant roots that have built an authentic, passionate soccer culture over generations. The Queen City punches well above its weight in American soccer.

Buffalo's large Polish, Italian, Ukrainian, and Puerto Rican communities created a grassroots soccer culture that predates MLS by decades. Western New York Flash (NWSL champions in 2016) put Buffalo women's soccer on the national map before folding, while the city's strong youth development scene and proximity to Toronto and Cleveland gives the area an interesting regional soccer identity.
